There are dreams inside of us that never fade—
the hope for a parent’s attention,
the love we once longed for,
the tenderness we thought we deserved but never received.

“I Never Promised You a Rose Garden” is a title borrowed from Lynn Anderson’s famous 1970s song—a song my father used to sing. Its refrain reminds us: “Along with the sunshine, there’s got to be a little rain sometime.”

This artwork carries that truth. Neither my father nor others in my life promised me a rose garden, even though I quietly hoped for it. With this painting, I decided to create my own—layer by layer, petal by petal.

The base of this unique piece is haute couture fabric from Carolina Herrera, almost a decade old. Choosing such a precious foundation is symbolic: beneath all the outer layers we show the world lies something rare and authentic—our true self, our soul, our roots.

This abstract painting reflects my journey of uncovering those layers, allowing what’s real to rise. It’s a reminder that we each have the power to grow our own rose garden within—authentically, beautifully, unapologetically.
